Renowned Director 鄭文堂 Leads Professional Jury in Award Announcement - Over a Decade Spent on Documentary 《高等的溼地》 Wins Top Prize

The industry plays a crucial role in sustainable development. For many years, Senao has upheld its ESG commitments, including the continuous promotion of the Senao Technology and Education Foundation’s Indigenous Documentary Competition series for 15 years. This initiative aims to raise public awareness about environmental issues and deepen image education, fostering a stronger connection between people and the land. Utilizing accessible 3C imaging tools, it captures beautiful stories. This year's competition, themed "Sustainable Vision," gathered sustainability stories from creators of all ages across Taiwan. The award ceremony was held today (12/9), presenting over 20 awards with a total prize pool. The grand prize, the Environmental Ecology Special Award, went to the documentary 《高等的溼地》 directed by 陳樂人, which took over 10 years to complete and won NT$300,000 in prize money!

Inviting 鄭文堂 to Lead the Professional Jury

Renowned director 鄭文堂, recognized by the Golden Bell and Golden Horse Awards, served as the jury chairman. He remarked that documentaries are fascinating because they open up a vast world through a small window. The competition is an important platform encouraging people of all ages to focus on their hometowns and ecosystems through filming. He cherished the opportunity to be a judge, seeing many impressive documentary works. Alongside directors 王耿瑜, 洪淳修, 李家驊, and producer 于立平 from PTS's "Our Island," they formed a professional jury to select 28 finalist works from hundreds of entries. The jury also personally presented awards to the winning teams.

Environmental Ecology Special Award 《高等的溼地》 Spent Over Ten Years Documenting the Changes of Development Projects and Ecosystems

To encourage everyone to love the land and the environment, the competition offered a grand prize of NT$300,000, setting up the Environmental Ecology Special Award. This year, the prize went to 《高等的溼地》, a non-typical ecological documentary highly praised by the professional jury. Director 陳樂人 spent over 10 years completing this short documentary, using dramatic narration and music to tell the story from an observer's perspective. It depicts the impact of the 高等 research park development project in 中興新村, 南投 on the local ecosystem, capturing valuable and infinitely wonderful footage of the wetland ecology and species' rise and fall.

This Year’s Theme "Sustainable Vision" Explores Cultural, Social, and Ecological Dimensions

This year's entries resonated with the theme "Sustainable Vision," using short documentary formats to explore various aspects such as culture, society, and ecology. The general category was highly competitive. The documentary 《鯨之聲》, nominated for the 60th Golden Horse Awards for Best Documentary Short, revealed the truth about offshore wind power development and marine ecology conservation, winning Best Film. The Merit Award went to 《在台移工病歷簿:海上的解藥》, highlighting the medical challenges faced by foreign workers in Taiwan, and 《平溪雙姝》, documenting the new life of young sisters returning to farming, won the Chinese Sustainability Report Award and the New Taipei Local Revitalization Microfilm Competition's first prize. Previously, the indigenous documentary 《揹著獵物的女人》, which won the Pulima Art Award for Visual Arts, followed a female hunter in a mountain tribe, beautifully conveying the coexistence of humans and nature through its steady imagery and beautiful music, winning the Best Technical Award in this competition.

Best Children's Film 《鶴!一同上學趣》 Uses Playful Animation to Document Sustainable Learning and Elderly Life

With the rapid development of digital tools, children's creativity can be greatly enhanced. The Best Children's Film Award went to 《鶴!一同上學趣》, created by students from Qigu District, Tainan. Incorporating stop-motion animation, the children broke free from classroom constraints to create a unique visual story. Focusing on the local community care point "Happy Academy," the students explored the lively lives of elders averaging over 80 years old, emphasizing the importance of elderly care and fostering respect and understanding across generations.

Indigenous Documentary Recommendation Award for Children and Youth

The Indigenous Documentary Recommendation Award for children and youth went to 《五給防風林》, produced by students from Shun'an Elementary School in Yilan. The students acted as junior reporters, documenting the ecological species in the windbreak forest before a typhoon, highlighting the environmental benefits of these species. The film won NT$150,000 in prize money!

The Senao Indigenous Documentary Competition is a leading event in Taiwan’s documentary circle, with a 15-year history. More teachers, students, and image enthusiasts participate each year. The event has extended to include vertical short film competitions, cloud learning courses, and campus touring film festivals. Award-winning documentaries are also available on the Chunghwa Telecom MOD platform, deeply rooting image education in Taiwan and leaving priceless visual records of the island.
